This past weekend, Virginia Beach made history as Brooke Johnson became the first woman to skateboard across America, completing her 118-day journey from Venice Beach, CA, to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Brooke wrapped up her incredible ride at Grommet Island Park, where the community gathered to cheer her on.
Her mission wasn’t just about setting a world record. Brooke skated in honor of her late stepdad, raising more than $50,000 for spinal cord research with every mile covered. Her promise to him — to finish strong and break barriers — came full circle when she dipped her skateboard into the Atlantic Ocean, officially completing her coast-to-coast challenge.
And this story has a special Hampton Roads connection. Karma at Skate Shop owner Amanda was there to surprise Brooke with a gift on behalf of the local skate community, showing love and respect for her groundbreaking achievement.
Brooke also partnered with Playtex, a brand committed to supporting strong, fearless women pushing boundaries and inspiring others. With their support, her journey resonated even louder, amplifying awareness for spinal cord research while empowering women everywhere to chase big, bold goals.
