
America’s 250th birthday is almost here, and Coastal Virginia is pulling out all the stops. From waterfront fireworks to drone shows to all-day festivals, there is something for every family across the region. Here’s your city-by-city guide to the best Independence Day celebrations happening this July 4th weekend.
Cape Charles 4th of July Celebration, Cape Charles
Date: July 4, 2026
Celebrate Independence Dayย with a parade, live music throughout the day at the Pavilion and LOVE sign, and fireworks at night. Follow along the parade from Bay Avenue to Mason Avenue at 10 a.m., followed by craft and artisan vendors until 5 p.m. along Bay Avenue. Food vendors will be serving from 10 a.m. until dark, with fireworks to follow after sunset.
Chesapeake
Celebrate Freedom Concert and Fireworks Spectacular ๐ Friday, July 3, 2026 | 5:00 PM ๐ Chesapeake City Park, 900 City Park Drive
Get a head start on the holiday with Chesapeake’s annual celebration the night before the Fourth. The event is free and open to the public, featuring food trucks, games, children’s activities, and live patriotic music from the U.S. Navy Fleet Forces Band. The evening wraps up with a sky-illuminating fireworks display by Pyrotecnico.

Hampton

Hampton is bringing something extra special this year โ fireworks AND a 400-drone show over the downtown waterfront. Three performance stages will keep the energy going all evening, including a headline performance by The Downtown Band, a high-energy cover band from Nashville. Settler’s Landing Road will be closed to vehicular traffic, with bleachers and vendors set up along the waterfront.

For an all-day experience steeped in history, Fort Monroe is hosting one of its most ambitious Fourth of July events ever. The day begins with a Civic Celebration on the Parade Ground, followed by the Out of Many, One Festival at Patton Street Park featuring family activities, demonstrations, and a taste of Virginia from across the state. The evening closes with a star-spangled concert on the Main Stage and the largest Fort Monroe fireworks show to date at 9:15 PM.
Newport News

One of Hampton Roads’ most beloved Fourth of July traditions returns for its 43rd year. Head to Town Point Park for live patriotic music, all-American fare โ hot dogs, hamburgers, barbecue, seafood, cotton candy, and more โ and one of the region’s most spectacular fireworks displays lighting up the sky above the Elizabeth River at 9:30 PM. Free and open to the public.
Portsmouth

Portsmouth is throwing a beach music party you won’t want to miss! Dust off your shag steps and head out for an evening of classic coastal Carolina sounds with The Original Rhondels performing from 5:00โ8:00 PM. The Tidewater Concert Band then takes the stage with patriotic music from 8:00โ9:30 PM, closing out the night with a fireworks show at 9:30 PM.

Weekly Fireworks โ All Summer Long Can’t get enough? Virginia Beach hosts weekly fireworks displays from July 4th weekend through Labor Day โ every Wednesday at 10:00 PM and every Sunday at 9:30 PM.
Yorktown
Yorktownโs Fourth of July Celebration is a full day (9 a.m.- 9:30 p.m.) of red, white, and โwoo-hoo!โ Start the morning with a patriotic parade down Main Street, then relax by the river, shop local boutiques, and enjoy family-friendly fun all day long.
The evening festivities include a stirring bell-ringing ceremony, a patriotic concert featuring Good Shot Judy, and a grand fireworks finale lighting up the York River at 9:15 p.m. Pack your picnic blanket, wave your flag high, and celebrate freedomโYorktown style!
